Though I don't watch reality TV I had a blast covering parts of this event. Everyone I encountered was gracious, friendly and played up to my camera. It was really fun seeing all the different personalities.
The race in town is an obstacle course with challenge stops, kind of like the show amazing race. They ran in teams and competed for the best time. These folks just finished running their race and I sure love those glasses!
I was blown away and grateful to see so much generosity and kindness for others. Humanity at it's finest. You see this incredible event, all of it from A to Z is done by volunteers. Isn't that awesome?! In a world where sometimes we get stuck in our own little bubble it was great to see hundreds of people coming together to donate their time to help others. The brainchild and incredible woman behind this project is Gillian Larson. If you're a Survivor fan you might recognize her. She is such an inspiring and gracious person and I was honored to work with her on this project.
I love all the artist, music, wine and kind heart'ed people who live in my town. A place where people come together to not only get artsy but to help others, is rad!
Happy Hump Day Peeps

i've watched every season of survivor but she doesn't look familiar. gonna google her. :)
ReplyDeletesounds like a good event for all involved!
Oh yes, google her I think she was on it maybe 08' or 09' and was voted off early. The story is once you are voted off the island you actually have to stay until the shows over because they can't fly people out all the time. She spent her "waiting" time thinking of what she could with the experience and that's when she hatched the plan for charity using her 2 seconds of fame :). Her story is really interesting.
DeleteGillian is an inspiration. Stardom is fleeting and fame from reality TV even moreso. When you do reality TV you have a choice to take it for exactly what it is and use your notability for good, but so many people grab onto it in the hopes of become a 'real star' (Whatever that means.) Gillian realized that she could take her 15 minutes of fame and extend them into a lifetime of change by working tirelessly for Michelle's Place, and that makes her more than a star. It makes her a hero!
DeleteWhat a great way to raise money and awareness!
