Earlier this week I went outside to water the garden and saw this...
this...
and this...
Gardens and squirrels are a very bad combination and I'm feeling a little Elmer Fudd today. These nasty little rodents have moved on from enjoying the chicken feed and are now destroying row after row in my garden. Last year I battled rabbits, thankfully with the music mans help I have been able to keep them out of my garden ever since. But the squirrel thing is an entirely different story altogether. They Climb, they dig and they pig the *bleep* out.
They dug up a row of carrots, half a row of potatoes, snacked on a few of my fava beans and dug up a huge chunk of my zucchini and cucumber transplants all in a single day!
I'm very thankful that they didn't eat everything. Sheesh they mowed down my crop SO fast.
I'm also thankful that the lady bugs are back and just in time before the big warm up that's coming our way. And I'm off to grab some CO2 for the ole pellet gun.
Happy May Day, I hope spring has sprung in your area and if you garden your harvest will be healthy.

oh, the squirrels are SO bad, aren't they? love your cute ladies. bet they'd love to have little hands like the squirrels to help them tear up their greens. :)
ReplyDeleteI sure hope the little rats around our place don't start doing that. Otherwise I will be going all Elmer Fudd on them. Beasts!
ReplyDeleteI hope for your sake they don't either. So frustrating to lose all those plants especially the ones i started indoors...ugh
DeleteOh, I hate tree rats! Our neighbor helps us out. We call him the Squirrel Slayer.
ReplyDeleteOh I think i need one of those neighbors :)
DeleteOh no! I'm sorry the squirrels have been making a mess of your garden. I hope you can figure out a solution!
ReplyDeleteThe girls seem to be enjoying the greens! Love seeing happy chickens :)
Thanks Tammy,
DeleteI hope so too, it is so frustrating! Watching the girls enjoy their greens makes me feel better though :) Hope you had a great weekend

Squirrels - ugh! I could send over my dog Keela...she's caught three in the past week. Go Keela! Now, if I could just teach her that I'd be just as proud of her even if she didn't bring them in the house to show me...
ReplyDeleteAw Joan I wish you lived closer. I'd share my Kale and Keela could come visit me and the squirrels. Go Keela!
DeleteOh girl, I feel your pain. This is my first visit to your blog and I'm amused that the first post I cam across is about SQUIRREL PROBLEMS!!! I can certainly empathize with your plight. We have a "community" of squirrels living in our attic and have been fighting them for six years now! I gave up gardening and now I just go to a farmer's market because it wasn't worth the time and effort. Now they're tearing down our home! I was sitting at the table yesterday and heard a noise, looked up and there was a squirrel scrawled across the skylight WATCHING ME!!! Ugh, I hate those things!! Sadly, it costs thousands of dollars to call in professionals to get them out and there are no guarantees that they won't come right back. :-\ If my squirrels weren't IN MY HOUSE, I think I'd be using a 30-06 to eradicate them! LOL! GOOD LUCK!!
ReplyDeleteHi Home,
DeleteWelcome! Oh my gosh I am sorry to hear about your squirrel problems. I couldn't imagine them in my house, yikes! Maybe you could get a squirrel trap? I hear they work really good and many of my neighbors use them. Good Luck I hope you get some relief soon.
